The maternal neonatal nursing track of the nurse residency program is designed to prepare nurses to work in maternal newborn services. This course covers a broad list of topics and references Nursing Principles and Practice of Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN).
The goal of this program is to introduce learners to the practice of maternal and neonatal nursing.
At the conclusion of this course, learners will be able to:
Demonstrate maternal and neonatal nursing technical skills.
Demonstrate maternal and neonatal nursing clinical decision-making.
Apply a systematic approach to assessing patients using a primary and secondary nursing assessment.
Identify common conditions present in maternal and neonatal patients.
Initiate appropriate interventions, based on standards of care, for maternal and neonatal patients based on their clinical picture.
Select differential diagnoses based on information provided from the patient and their history and physical examination.
