The emergency nursing track of the nurse residency program is designed to prepare nurses to work in the emergency department. This course covers a broad list of topics and references Sheehy’s Emergency Nursing Principles and Practice.
The goal of this program is to introduce learners to the practice of emergency nursing.
At the conclusion of this course, learners will be able to:
Demonstrate emergency nursing technical skills.
Demonstrate emergency nursing clinical decision-making.
Apply a systematic approach to assessing patients using a primary and secondary nursing assessment.
Identify common illnesses of emergency department patients.
Initiate appropriate interventions, based on standards of care, for emergency department patients based on their clinical picture.
Select differential diagnoses based on information provided from the patient and their history and physical examination.
