(August 3, 2009) – The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) has granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to the Cancer Program at Saint Thomas Hospital.

 

Health Grades (June 2, 2009) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been awarded the HealthGrades 2009/2010 Outstanding Patient Experience Award. This honor places Saint Thomas Hospital in the top 15 percent of all eligible hospitals in patient experience. The ratings are based on patient satisfaction survey results that hospitals provided as part of a federal initiative to provide consumers with more information about hospital performance.

 

Health Grades (April 7, 2009) — For the fifth consecutive year, Saint Thomas Hospital has received the HealthGrades® Patient Safety Excellence Award™. Of the nearly 5,000 hospitals studied, only 242 hospitals in the United States have received the Patient Safety Excellence Award. This award places Saint Thomas Hospital among the top five percent of all hospitals in the U.S.

 

(March 30, 2009) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Reuters Healthcare. This is the eighth time Saint Thomas Hospital has earned this distinction.

 

(March 11, 2009) – The Joint Commission has awarded Saint Thomas Hospital Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification. Saint Thomas Hospital earned this distinction after the Joint Commission conducted an on-site review on March 5, 2009, as part of their recertification process. Saint Thomas Hospital first received Stroke Center Certification in February 2007.

 

Health Grades (Jan. 27, 2009) – Saint Thomas Hospital is one of only 270 hospitals nationally and the only hospital in Nashville to receive HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award. This distinction is based on an independent study released today by HealthGrades, the leading healthcare ratings company.

 

(December 17, 2008) – Saint Thomas Hospital has achieved accreditation as a Heart Failure Institute, officials announced today. Saint Thomas Hospital is the first hospital in the state of Tennessee to receive this accreditation from the Healthcare Accreditation Colloquium.

 

(Nov. 18, 2008) – Thomson Reuters has named Saint Thomas Hospital one of the nation’s 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals. This marks the seventh time that Saint Thomas Hospital has received this recognition, based on excellence in care, efficiency in operations and sustainability of cardiovascular performance. Saint Thomas is the only Nashville hospital named in the Community Hospital Category, and one of only three hospitals in Tennessee receiving this honor.

(Aug. 11, 2008) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been recognized by Thomson Reuters in its annual study identifying hospitals that demonstrated the fastest, most consistent improvement in the nation over five consecutive years. The study — Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: Performance Improvement Leaders, 5th Edition — examined the performance of more than 2,800 U.S. hospitals on a variety of clinical, financial, operational and patient safety criteria to identify the 100 winners.

 

(Aug. 11, 2008) – Saint Thomas Hospital has received the American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines–Stroke (GWTG–Stroke) Gold Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes Saint Thomas’ commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations. Saint Thomas is the only hospital in Tennessee to achieve Gold status.

 

(June 12, 2008) –Saint Thomas Hospital today announced it has been recognized by the Premier healthcare alliance as a winner of the Premier Award for Quality (AFQ). Saint Thomas Hospital is one of 27 winners out of more than 3,800 eligible hospitals nationwide.

 

(April 11, 2008) – Often described as the “Daughter’s hospital,” the “heart hospital,” or the “hospital with a soul,” Saint Thomas Hospital celebrates 110 years of service today.  Governor Phil Bredesen has signed a proclamation naming April 11, Saint Thomas Hospital Day in Tennessee.

 

Health Grades (April 8, 2008) — HealthGrades has awarded Saint Thomas Hospital the 2008 Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety. This award places Saint Thomas Hospital within the top 5 percent of the nation’s hospitals in the HealthGrades fifth annual Patient Safety in American Hospitals Study.

Of the nearly 5,000 hospitals studied, only 249 hospitals in the United States received the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety.

This marks the sixth time that Saint Thomas Hospital has received this recognition, based on excellence in care, efficiency in operations and sustainability of cardiovascular performance. Saint Thomas is the only hospital in Nashville recognized, and one of only four hospitals in Tennessee receiving this honor.

 

Health Grades (October 15, 2007) – According to the Tenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study, Saint Thomas Hospital ranks among the top ten percent or better nationally in multiple areas, ranging from coronary, vascular and orthopedic procedures to treatment of pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions. The study, the largest of its kind, analyzed patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation's 5,000 hospitals over the years 2004, 2005 and 2006.

(Oct. 10, 2007) – Saint Thomas Hospital has received the “Spirit of Planetree Award” in the “Healthy Communities” category, recognizing the hospital’s Dispensary of Hope. The “Spirit of Planetree Awards” recognize individual health care professionals and institutions for their achievements in patient-centered care. Founded by a patient, Planetree has been at the forefront of the effort to personalize, humanize and demystify the health care system.

 

(Oct. 1, 2007) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been awarded the Medal of Honor from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for its life-saving organ donation rates. The award is presented to hospitals for donation rates of 75 percent or more for a sustained 12-month period.

 

(Sept. 27, 2007) – The Maria Nathanson Center of Excellence at Saint Thomas Hospital and Dr. Ron Pruitt have been selected to join the prestigious Olympus EndoTherapy Centers of Excellence program. This unique program provides peer-to-peer training opportunities, allowing physicians and nurses to visit Saint Thomas Hospital to learn about the latest technology and techniques in endoscopic gastroenterology.

 

(Sept. 20, 2007) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been designated one of only 41 U.S. hospitals named 2007 Leapfrog Top Hospitals, based on results from the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey, a rating system that provides an up-to-the-minute assessment of a hospital’s quality and safety. This is the second year Saint Thomas Hospital has been named to the Leapfrog Top Hospital list.

 

(Sept. 14, 2007) – Saint Thomas Hospital is the first hospital in the nation to successfully implant two patients with a new wireless pressure sensor for heart failure (HF) monitoring. These patient implants mark the initiation of the CHAMPION (CardioMEMS Heart Sensor Allows Monitoring of Pressure to Improve Outcomes in NYHA Class III Patients) pivotal clinical research study.

 

(July 19, 2007) – Saint Thomas Hospital has received the Get With The Guidelines - Stroke (GWTG - Stroke) Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. Saint Thomas Hospital is among 277 hospitals recognized in the July 23 issue of US News & World Report for their aggressive goal of treating stroke patients with levels of care outlined by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.

 

(May 15, 2007) – The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (AcoS) has awarded Saint Thomas Hospital the 2006 CoC Outstanding Achievement Award. Only 31 cancer facilities across the country have received this honor. Saint Thomas is the only Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program recognized in Tennessee.

 

Health Grades (March, 27, 2007) - HealthGrades has awarded Saint Thomas Hospital the 2007 Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety. This award places Saint Thomas Hospital within the Top 5 percent of the Nation’s Hospitals in the HealthGrades Fourth Annual Patient Safety in American Hospitals study, which analyzed performance in 13 patient-safety indicators.

 

(March 20, 2007) - Saint Thomas Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

 

(March 19, 2007) - The Society of Chest Pain Centers has granted the designation, “Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI, Cycle II” to the two Nashville hospitals of Saint Thomas Health Services. Baptist and Saint Thomas Hospitals are among only 47 Cycle II Accredited Chest Pain Centers in the United States. Cycle II Accreditation is the second tier of chest pain center accreditation hospitals can achieve.

 

(Feb. 7, 2007) - The Joint Commission has awarded Saint Thomas Hospital Primary Stroke Center Certification. Saint Thomas Hospital earned this distinction after the Joint Commission conducted an on-site review January 22, 2007.

(Oct. 17, 2006) - Saint Thomas Hospital has been named to the first Leapfrog Top Hospitals list, based on results from the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey, a national rating system that offers a broad assessment of a hospital’s quality and safety. Fifty-nine U.S. hospitals were honored.

 

Health Grades (October 16, 2006) - Saint Thomas Hospital is the best in the region in many areas of care, according to a new study released by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent healthcare quality company. Saint Thomas Hospital has again been ranked among the top ten percent in the nation and best in the Nashville area, for overall cardiac services and heart surgery. For the third consecutive year, Saint Thomas achieved a five-star rating in heart surgery from HealthGrades. Saint Thomas is also rated number one in the Nashville area for cardiology, and received five-star ratings for angioplasty and stent (six years in a row), treatment of atrial fibrillation (four years in a row), and treatment of heart attack and heart failure.

(August 14, 2006) - Solucient has recognized Saint Thomas Hospital with a special award honoring hospitals who have won the 100 Top Hospitals National Benchmark Award five or more times. Only 60 hospitals in the nation have received this honor.
