Patient Satisfaction

Falls

Falls are among the most common injuries to occur within a hospital setting. Records are kept to monitor when a patient falls and requires medical intervention, such as sutures or surgery. A patient fall is counted when a patient falls from bed, falls from a slippery floor, or after fainting, for example. Cases when a patient is assisted to the floor (when a staff member attempts to minimize the impact of the fall) are also considered a fall. Falls with injury are calculated as the number of falls with injury per 1,000 patient days. The indicators below offer insight into how well we manage the hospital setting to these types of falls.
