(April 18, 2011) The Saint Thomas Hospital Outpatient Cardiac Imaging Center has received reaccreditation with ICAEL (Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiographic Laboratories).
(April 15, 2011) – The Joint Commission has recertified the Saint Thomas Hospital Advanced Primary Stroke Center. Saint Thomas Hospital first received Stroke Center Certification in February 2007.
(April 14, 2011) – Saint Thomas Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for its Joint Replacement Program by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care.
(March 29, 2011) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been ranked one of the best hospitals in Nashville in U.S. News & World Report’s first-ever Best Hospitals metro area rankings. The new rankings recognize 622 hospitals in or near major cities with a record of high performance in key medical specialties, including 132 of the 152 hospitals already identified as the best in the nation.
(March 28, 2011) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. This is the tenth time Saint Thomas Hospital has been recognized with this honor.
(March 22, 2011) – Saint Thomas Health Centers for Breast Health with locations at Baptist and Saint Thomas Hospitals in Nashville and Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn., are the first facilities in Middle Tennessee to receive a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
(Feb. 28, 2011) – Becker's Hospital Review has named Saint Thomas Hospital one of the “50 Best Hospitals in America.” According to Becker’s Hospital Review, the 50 best hospitals cover a wide spectrum from well-known academic medical centers to less widely recognized community hospitals that have reached greatness.
(Jan. 11, 2011) – Cardiologists at Saint Thomas Hospital are the first in Tennessee to offer the Arctic Front® Cardiac CryoAblation Catheter system, the first and only cryoballoon in the United States indicated to treat drug refractory recurrent symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF), a serious heart rhythm disorder that affects millions of Americans.
(Jan. 5, 2011) – Saint Thomas Hospital’s Medical Director of Cardiac Transplant, Mark Aaron, M.D., and Medical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Clinic, Douglas Pearce, M.D., have earned sub-specialty certification in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology from the American Board of Internal Medicine. Drs. Aaron and Pearce are among the first cardiologists in Tennessee to earn this distinction.
(Oct. 23, 2010) – The Saint Thomas Hospital Center for Breast Health has received the Outstanding Program Award from the Academy of Oncology Nurse Navigators (AONN). The AONN presented the Excellence in Navigation & Survivorship Awards at its first annual Navigation & Survivor Conference where more than 400 U.S. and international oncology patient navigators and other professionals attended. Saint Thomas was among the recipients recognized for excellence in patient navigation and survivorship care.
(Oct. 19, 2010) - The Saint Thomas Health's Center for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has been designated the first Comprehensive Center for MS Care in Tennessee by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS).
(Aug. 23, 2010) – Richard John Geer, MD, FACS, Nashville, TN, a Cancer Liaison Physician (CLP) at Saint Thomas Hospital, has received an Outstanding Performance Award for going above and beyond the scope of the normal duties of serving as a liaison between the cancer program and the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC).
(Aug. 11, 2010) – Saint Thomas Hospital’s Cardiac Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Destination Therapy has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for health care quality from The Joint Commission. Saint Thomas Hospital is the first Middle Tennessee hospital to earn this cardiac disease specific accreditation from the Joint Commission.
(June 18, 2010) – The Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC) has granted the three-year designation, “Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI” to the Chest Pain Center at Saint Thomas Hospitals. There are 594 Accredited Chest Pain Centers in the United States.
(April 1, 2010) – The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons has granted its 2009 Outstanding Achievement Award to Saint Thomas Hospital, which is one of a select group of 82 currently accredited and newly accredited cancer programs across the United States.
(March 29, 2010) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been named a 100 Top Hospital by Thomson Reuters Healthcare. This is the ninth time Saint Thomas Hospital has earned this distinction. The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks study is based on the 100 Top Hospitals National Balanced Scorecard that evaluates performance in nine areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio, patient satisfaction, and adherence to clinical standards of care.
(Jan. 20, 2010) – Saint Thomas Hospital is the first in Middle Tennessee to offer a new outpatient therapy for heart failure patients, the Aquapheresis medical therapy system. Congestive heart failure is a condition in which the heart can’t pump enough blood to the body’s other organs. One of the symptoms of heart failure is the retention and accumulation of fluid around the heart and the body’s vital organs. Heart failure patients are typically admitted to the hospital for four to five days to have that fluid drained.
(Oct. 29, 2009) – Saint Thomas Hospital has received the American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes Saint Thomas Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment for at least 24 months according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations. Saint Thomas is the only Nashville hospital to receive Gold recognition.
(August 3, 2009) – The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) has granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to the Cancer Program at Saint Thomas Hospital.
(March 30, 2009) – Saint Thomas Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Reuters Healthcare. This is the eighth time Saint Thomas Hospital has earned this distinction.
(March 11, 2009) – The Joint Commission has awarded Saint Thomas Hospital Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification. Saint Thomas Hospital earned this distinction after the Joint Commission conducted an on-site review on March 5, 2009, as part of their recertification process. Saint Thomas Hospital first received Stroke Center Certification in February 2007.
(October 2011) - Rutherford Parent Best Place to Have a Baby.
(November 2010) - Middle Tennessee Medical Center Wellness Center receives the certification of its cardiac rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The Wellness Center was recognized for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care.
(October 2010) - The new Middle Tennessee Medical Center has been recognized in South Central Construction magazine’s Region’s Best of 2010 Winners for best healthcare. Turner Universal Construction of Brentwood, Tenn. was the contractor for the $267 million facility. Through use of new methods like building information modeling (BIM), integrated project delivery and lean construction, Turner was able to complete the 556,000 square foot replacement facility on budget and three months ahead of schedule.
(September 2010) - Middle Tennessee Medical Center President and CEO, Gordon B. Ferguson, and Vice President of Support Services, Rodger Klein, have received top awards for their leadership in health care.
(June 2010) - The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons has granted a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to the Cancer Program at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. The cancer program was surveyed as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program, because of its extraordinary 19 percent growth over the past three years (624 cases in 2005 versus 742 in 2009), and is also the only Comprehensive Cancer Center in Rutherford County.
(June 2010) - Middle Tennessee Medical Center received Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC), an international organization dedicated to eliminating heart disease as the number one cause of death worldwide.
(June 2010) - Middle Tennessee Medical Center’s PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) program has received designation as a Clinical Center of Excellence by Bard Vascular Access Systems, and was one of only seven sites chosen across the nation to provide PICC training. Bard Vascular Access is a primary supplier of PICC equipment and supplies and is a leader in vascular access technology.
(February 2010) - By demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission‘s national standards for health care quality and safety, Middle Tennessee Medical Center remains fully accredited by The Joint Commission, the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. The Joint Commission conducted an unannounced, on-site evaluation of MTMC in February. The accreditation award recognizes MTMC’s dedication to complying with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards on a continuous basis.
(January 2010) - Middle Tennessee Medical Center earned a Commitment Award in the annual Excellence in Tennessee recognition program administered by the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence (TNCPE).Through an annual evaluation and assessment process, the non-profit TNCPE recognizes organizations that have achieved the highest standards of excellence in their operations and results.
(December 2009) - Middle Tennessee Medical Center Bariatric Center has been named an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence®. This designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery. In addition, the Bariatric Center’s surgeons, Drs. Wayne Westmoreland and George Eckles, have been designated as ASMBS Bariatric Center of Excellence Surgeons.
(July 2009) - MTMC started scholarship funding for diabetes patients who do not have financial means or insurance for diabetes education. Through this scholarship, the MTMC Diabetes Center can provide nursing and nutritional instructor time, and lab and educational materials at no cost.
The MTMC laboratory received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, whose accreditation program is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the governments own inspection program.

(September, 2008)- Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) received a $1.75 million grant from the Christy-Houston Foundation for the implementation of a robotic surgery program which includes the purchase of a da Vinci Surgical System. The da Vinci Surgical System provides minimally invasive surgical instrumentation beyond the capabilities of the human hand. The da Vinci will allow patients to stay in Murfreesboro for leading edge technology and procedures that are less painful with smaller incisions and shorter hospital stays.
(April 16, 2008)- Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new $267 million hospital. The Medical Campus will be located in Murfreesboro’s Gateway area on 68.5 acres of land owned by MTMC. The campus will consist of a 286-bed hospital, medical office buildings, and outpatient diagnostic and surgical facilities.

(March 20, 2007) – The Society of Chest Pain Centers granted Middle Tennessee Medical Center a three year re-accreditation as a Chest Pain Center. The Chest Pain Center of MTMC has demonstrated expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
(May, 2007) - Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) has been awarded a Three-Year with Commendation approval from The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). Only one in four hospitals that treats cancer patients receives this special approval. MTMC was compliant in all 36 standards. Within the 36 standards, there are nine that a program may get a 1+ rating. MTMC received a 1+ on seven out of the nine.
(May 7, 2007) - Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) celebrates 80 years of service to Middle Tennesseans from Rutherford, Cannon, Coffee and Warren Counties.
(July 19, 2007) – Middle Tennessee Medical Center has received the Get With The Guidelines - Stroke (GWTG - Stroke) Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. Middle Tennessee Medical Center is among 277 hospitals recognized in the July 23 issue of US News & World Report for their aggressive goal of treating stroke patients with levels of care outlined by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.
(October 25, 2006)- Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) has been given approval from the State’s Health Services and Development Agency (HSDA) to build a new Medical Campus that will replace the existing MTMC facility. The Medical Campus will be located in Murfreesboro’s Gateway area on 68.5 acres of land owned by MTMC. The campus will consist of a 286-bed hospital, medical office buildings, and outpatient diagnostic and surgical facilities.
(June 15, 2006)- Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) announces the launch of a State-of-the-art Patient Activity Tracking System. MTMC is the only hospital being funded by Ascension Health for implementation of a hospital-wide information tracking system. The tracking system will offset many of the issues faced by caregivers. The result will be easily accessible real-time data for the location of equipment (e.g. wheelchairs) and patient activity.

(January, 2008)- MTMC Rutherford Society. Rutherford Society was formed in order to raise both awareness and funds in order to enhance patient care.
(February, 2008)- MTMC announces the addition of Saint Thomas Heart. Dr. G. Britton Mioton, Jr., M.D.,F.A.C.C., an invasive cardiologist, formed the first practice in Murfreesboro that will operate under the umbrella of Saint Thomas Heart.
(May, 2008)- MTMC physician first in Rutherford County to offer alternative solution to urinary frequency. Dr. Chad M. Jackson is the first physician at Middle Tennessee Medical Center to offer an alternative solution for patients with this condition, the InterStim® Therapy System.
(June, 2008)- New therapeutic massage service to benefit expecting and new mothers. Saint Thomas Health's hospitals, including Baptist Hospital in Nashville and Middle Tennessee Medical Center deliver a combined total of nearly 10,000 babies each year. These babies and their mothers benefit from a new therapeutic massage service.
(August, 2008)- MTMC enhances women’s services with digital mammography.
MTMC is committed to providing high quality and convenient care in women’s health, and is pleased to announce the Center for Breast Health that offers a variety of women’s services in one location. The new center is equipped with two full field digital mammography units and offers nurse navigation.
